.... when you slowly bend a note (say a whole step) and pick it quickly while going in and out of the bend?
What is that technique called? Does it have a name?
Thanks,
Mike
You mean one where the note goes up/down/up/down in one pick attack?
I've heard that called a reciprocating bend.

reciprocating bend
You just made that up, didn't ya?
Sort of..... I think.
I'll do a couple of quick picks to the note then bend the note up (still quickly picking it) and then release the bend still picking it and then move on. I do it with two notes at a time too.
I know others do it, just don't know the name of it.
Sorry, I'm not the best at explaining things.
EDIT- No, it's not a reciprocating bend. I'm not bending it back and forth, just once
Thank you,
Mike
Note sure it has a particular name, Mike. But you are basically picking microtones (in between notes) as you bend. BTW, doing this or any simultaneous picking of "two notes" on two strings at the same time does have a name: double stop.

LOL no, that's what I've heard it called. I don't teach it by a name though, it's more like "you can keep bending it up and releasing like this..."
If you just do it once, it's a bend and release.

Well if that's the case, sorry for wasting your time.
For some reason I thought it would have a name (other then bend  ... ). I do the reciprocating bit too, but not for the lick I am working on. Now that I do it again though, it sounds better when I reciprocate it. So maybe this post was worth something after all.
Thank you all,
 Mike
isnt it called a glisando?
seriously.
It could be called a glissando. So can a slide across several frets. Or using a slide and picking as it hits various notes along the way on a continuous slide. That term's usually used for a slide up or down a keyboard.

No reason to apologize, reciprocating (I had to look again to spell that) sounds very cultured in my opinion. :D
Bend and release.
With a bend, you pick the note and then bend the string to raise the pitch.
With a release, you first bend the string, then pick it, and allow the pitch to come back down.
But there is no reason why you couldn't continually pick a string while bending and releasing a note.
That is the great thing about guitar. Nobody can tell you what to do. Not even the President. You can play it anyway you want. 8)

Thanks, Wes.
Yeah, I know what a bend and release is, but I am pickin' it fast so I didn't know if it had a name or anything. For some reason, I never looked at it as a bend and release because there is a lot going on within the mear seconds I'm doing it.
Thank you everyone!
