John Fogerty - Almost Saturday Night

Regular readers will know by now how much I love the man and his music - so here's yet another Fogerty classic.......

Intro........

B|-6p5-5-6-8------------------|
G|-------------5-7h9-9-7h9-9-|
D|-------------------------------|

B|-6p5-5-6--8---6p5----------|
G|--------------5-----7p5----5-|
D|--------------------------7---|

B|-6p5-5-6-8---------------|
G|-------------5-7h9-9-7h9-9-|

E|8-8-7-7-5-5-------------------------------|
B|--------------8-8-6-6-5-5-------------------|
G|--------------------------7-7-5-5------------|
D|------------------------------------5----------|

(C)Outside my (F)window,(C)I can hear the (F)radio,
And you (C)know that motor-(Am)wagon is ready to (Em)fly,
Cause it's (G)almost Saturday (C)night...

(C)Bye-bye to(F)morrow, (C)Jodie's gone to the ((F)rodeo,
And you (C)know some good old (Am)boys are ready to (Em)ride,
Cause it's (G)almost Saturday (F)night...

(F)Gonna push the clowns a(C)way,
Let the music have it's (F)way,
Let it (D)steal my heart a(C)way,
And you (G)know I'm going,

(C)Outside they're (F)ringing, (C)The night train is (F)bringing me home,
When you (C)hear that Loco(Am)motion getting ready to (Em)fly,
Cause it's (G)almost Saturday (C)night......

repeat intro, repeat "Gonna push....", repeat "Outside they're ringing"

Then repeat this part of intro 3 times......

E|-------------------------|
B|-6p5-5-6-8---------------|
G|-------------5-7h9-9-7h9-9-|

Then

E|---------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------|
G|-5-5-4-4-2-2-0-0--------------|
D|--------------------3-3-2-2-----|
A|-----------------------------3-3-|
E|----------------------------------|

or you can turn that last note into a humungous great C chord to finish......!!!

Have fun....

Vic

Thanks for all the song postings. I thought this one was a Dave Edmunds song - who was covering who? Just curious...

Laoch, John Fogerty wrote it, and recorded it on the "Centerfield" album about 85 or so ------Yes, Dave Edmunds did a (Brilliant) cover of this,,,,,,

Took me longer to post this, what with all the edits, than it did to learn the bloody song in the first place!!!!

Oh, and Dave Edmunds did it in D......so get that capo out and get in on the second fret if you want to use these chords........

Hi Vic -

I just started learning this and it's really good. Thanks for your effort on it. I have one question though, regarding this part of the intro riff:
E|8-8-7-7-5-5-------------------------------|
B|--------------8-8-6-6-5-5-------------------|
G|--------------------------7-7-5-5------------|
D|------------------------------------5----------|

Are you still comfortable with these notes? I'm listening the the song as it was recorded for the Premonition CD, and to my wooden ear the riff is not starting on the high E string. It's also finishing on C at the third fret of the A string - he starts singing 'Outside ...' as he hits the last note in the riff, on the 'C' chord.

It sounds to me as though this section of the intro riff (in this version of the song at least) is very similar to the ending riff:
E|---------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------|
G|-5-5-4-4-2-2-0-0--------------|
D|--------------------3-3-2-2-----|
A|-----------------------------3-3-|
E|----------------------------------|

Am I completely off-base here? I haven't had enough time to try tabbing what I hear (and I'd need a LOT of time!) but I'll give it a whirl over the Christmas break and post once done.

This Youtube video doesn't focus enough on his left hand, but it's a pretty good recording!

Jimjam, I've only just seen this - I don't actually have the Premonition LP, the version I tabbed out is from a live recording I taped off the radio! It's a couple of years since I did this; these days I seem to be able to "see" the music more clearly. I'll take a careful listen and get back to you on this one.

:D :D :D
