This is a great acoustic style song from the flower power era written by the talented John Sebastian. Always reminds me of summer term at secondary school, always hot and stretched out on the playing field admiring the girl from a distance you know you'll never have the courage to ask out.

Enough of that!!!!

It has a simple palm muted intro that only uses one chord. You hear it and your hooked. so here goes:

Put a capo on first fret.

Intro:

C Chord

Strum pattern: (Down-Down) in quick time then miss a beat and (Up)
muting strings each beat. Repeat twice.

Hope that makes sense! Well I tried!

Verse 1:

(C) What a day for a (A7)day dream,

(Dm7) What a day for a (G7)daydreamin' boy,

(C) I'm lost in a (A7) day dream,

(Dm7) Dreamin' bout my (G7) bundle of joy.

Chorus 1:

(F) And even if (D7) time ain't really (C) on my (A7) side,

(F) It's one of those (D7) days for taking a (C) walk out(A7)side,

(F) I'm blowing the (D7) day to take a (C) walk in the (A7) sun,

(G) And fall on my (C) face on somebody,s (G7) mowed (C) lawn (G)

Verse 2:

(C) I've been havin' a (A7) sweet dream,

(Dm7) I've been dreamin' since I (G7) woke up today,

(C) It's starring me in my (A7) sweet dream,

(Dm7) Cause she's the one makes me (G7) feel this way,

Chorus 2:

(F) And even if (D7) time is passin' me (C) by a (A7) lot,

(F) I couldn't care (D7) less about (C) dues you say (A7) I got,

(F) Tommorow I'll (D7) pay dues for (C) dropping my (A7) load,

(G) A pie in the (C) face for being a (G7) bull (C) toad (G)

Now the middle bit:

Four beats of (C) (A7) (Dm7) & (G7)

Chorus 3:

(F) And if you can be (D7) sure that if you're (C) feelin' (A7) right,

(F) A day dream will (D7) last along (C) into the (A7) night,

(F) Tomorrow at (D7) breakfast you may (C) prick up your (A7) ears,

(G) Or you may be (C) day dreamin' for a (G7) thousand (C) years (G)

Verse 3:

(C) What a day for a (A7)day dream,

(Dm7) What a day for a (G7)daydreamin' boy,

(C) I'm lost in a (A7) day dream,

(Dm7) Dreamin' bout my (G7) bundle of joy.

Outro:

Two beats of (F7) (D7) and two beats of (C) (A7)
then repeat and fade out

Useful Tips

I've found you can get away with using (Fmaj7) instead of (F) if you find F difficult like I do.
I learnt this trick from David Hodge in the Easy songs for beginners pages. (See House Of The Rising Sun)

You can even get away with using a straight (G) instead of (G7) too.

Far out!

Peace & love to all,

Chris

I was thinking about summer while standing in the cold & damp waiting for the bus home tonight (car still out of action £416 quid for a new distributor! No way, No how! no secondhand one's about either) and my thoughts turned to another song I posted back in March that would go with the Jennifer Eccles post. Same era different band. looked back through the ESD to find it. yes "Daydream"

"Shock Horror Probe"!! not one reply to it back then.

Come on guys, tell your local Dogs. whats wrong with it?? You can tell me I won't bite, honest!

Chris

Nothing wrong with it. When your on your on and no comments were necessary. Just to confirm that here is the original Daydream and it's dead on.

Thanks anyway.

I had to wait long enough mate. I could have practiced barre chords. There would have been no pain as my fingers were freezing.

Ah yes Vic but would "she" (as in wet day she's there) have been there though?

Strange how ESD postings seem to end up with unintentional Radio 2 type links to other songs.

LOL

Took a "walk" through the archives when I found this little nugget. A lot of fun to strum and sing (especially when you can't really sing . . . like me. You can sing all sorts of little nuances in the song and it still sounds ok!). To get the "da- dum-dum" feel of the song going try opening with a C/G chord

C/G
e ---------0---
B ---------1---
G ---------0--- 4x and carry into verse
D ---------2---
A -----3---3---
E ---3-----3---
