Time for me to offer another easy one. This is one of John Lennon's classics. Once issued as a studio version single but now thankfully re-issued in album form on the re-mastered "Let It Be Naked" in all its original rooftop session glory. Just read these lyrics and chords, they flow beautifully into each other. See! John could write seriously wierd and seriously straight and from the heart.
I'll try (but I can't promise) over the weekend to record this and post it here to give help with the strum pattern. In the meantime wack on the CD, set to repeat play plug your phones into your lugholes and play along. You will get it. It's easy really.
Have fun with it everyone.
Intro/Chorus:
(G)Don't let me (Am)down, don't let me (G)down
(G)Don't let me (Am)down, don't let me (G)down
Verse 1:
(G)Nobody ever loved me like she (Am)does
(Am)Oo-ooh she does, yes she (G)does
(G)And if somebody loved me like she (Am)do me
(Am)Oo-ooh she do me, yes she (G)does
Chorus:
(G)Don't let me (Am)down, don't let me (G)down
(G)Don't let me (Am)down, don't let me (G)down
Bridge:
(G)I'm in love for the first time
(G)Don't you know it's gonna (D7)last
(D7)It's a love that lasts forever
(D7)It's a love that has no (G)past
Chorus:
(G)Don't let me (Am)down, don't let me (G)down
(G)Don't let me (Am)down, don't let me (G)down
Verse 2:
(G)And from the first time that she really (Am)done me
Oo-ooh she done me, she done me (G)good
(G)I guess nobody ever really (Am)done me
(Am)Oo-ooh like she done me, she done me (G)good
Chorus:
(G)Don't let me (Am)down, don't let me (G)down
(G)Don't let me (Am)down, don't let me (G)down
Then it fades slowly with, if you've got one, some great keyboard stuff thrown in.
Come on Vic get your organ out mate! We know you've got one! Billy Preston eat your heart out!
But seriously folks if anyone has got the keyboard chords post em here along with any other guitar fills etc.
Cheers all.
Chris
ps I'm being sent by my firm on a two day course at Oxford University tomorrow. Me at Oxford, Oh I say!!
(A chump at Oxford more like!) so I won't get near my guitar   . Plenty of beer at night though!! :D :D
The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)
Sounds ok Chris. I learnt this song a while ago only I'm sure it was in E, so it did need the odd barre chord like F#m and I think a F#m7.
Your version is nice and easy though!
I'll do a simplified intro tab for the key your playing it in.

There is a little bit more to it but this is a good starting point.

Thanks matt I love it. BTW its seems the strum pattern D DUD starting out, but you could change it to DON'T 'D' LET 'D' ME 'D' in just three heavy down strumms and then back to mellower strums d dud or whatever. The second 'don't let me down gets the three down strums
This is how I play it in E
Its probably not as easy as Chris's version but more faithfull to the original sound.CHORUS 4/4 time

F#m F#m7 Amaj7/B Esus4 E

Rodders,
I can't quite figure out the Amaj7/B and F#m/B chords. How are you playing them?
Thanks.

Thanks Rodders, but now I'm really confused. With my limited knowlege of music theory here's the way I understand it. Slash cords have the note following the slash in the bass. Given that I would have done this:
F#m F#m/B
EADGBE => EADBGE
244222 x24222
That would put B in the base. The A string, 3rd fret puts C in the bass, right?
For the AMaj7/B, I would have done this:
AMaj7 AMaj7/B
EADGBE => EADGBE
x02120 x22120
Again, putting B as the bass note.
What am I missing?
Maybe I should take this over to the Theory board.
Thanks,
Steve
Ok Steve,
What I tend to do when learning a song is to first look up any of the chords I'm not familiar with by going to powertab editors chord dictionary and keying in the chord I'm looking for and upon which fret I want to play it. The options on this piece of software are really good and give you all the options you are likely to encounter, such as Sharps / Flats / 7ths / Minor / Major etc. etc. As well as giving you all the Bass notes with Flats & Sharps. It will find the chord and give you the fingerings in chord box format, but not just one, usually it will give you up to 7 or 8 different shapes. All I do is pick the one with the easiest fingerings.
In the case of this song the chord shapes I gave you are the chord shapes it came up with.
If you have Powertab editor give it a go and see what you come up with.
If not, its a free download and not a huge file, but a very useful one and you can get it here.

Thanks Rodders. I have Powertab, but missed that feature! I just looked at it - very cool. I'm sure this will come in handy in the future.

Hey guys,
Had a jam with Rodders on this one yesterday. He played his self worked out version of the intro.
Wow! Authentic or what! Right on the nail Rodders old boy. You could have been there on the rooftop in Jan 69 (except you were only 13 at the time. well nearly 14).
My bruvver's clever!

Well thanks Chris but I think your putting me on too high a pedestal and I would hate to fall off.
Now then Isnt it about time we had an Easy Beatles Song Database
I haven't counted the songs we allready heve on here by the fab four, but wouldnt it be great if they were easier to locate !!
What do you think Nick :?:
