Time I gave some more for us beginners & strugglers, so here goes. A Beatles classic!

This is a real easy one with a neat D/E/G/D chord progression. For the strum pattern I suggest listening to the song and together with the chord progression you'll find it will all fall into place.

I've found this song also helps with forcing us open chord players to try a full Barre when playing the B minor but still works without on a simplified Bm. The whole song is probably dead easy all barred by you experts out there! But we've got to start somewhere.

If you can, listen to how the Beatles developed this song (tracks 24 & 25 Disc 2 on Anthology 1) and listen to the final version on Beatles For Sale. Yes they played about with it so we can too. Have fun.

Intro:

D-DDD / E-EEE / G-GGG / D

Verse 1:

D-------------------E--------------G-------------------D
Ooh, I need your love, babe, guess I know it's true
D---------------------E--------------G-----------------D
Hope you need my love, babe, just like I need you

Chorus 1:

Bm--------G----------Bm--------E
Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
D-----------------------E--------------G---------------D
I ain't got nothing but love, babe, eight days a week

Verse 2:

D-----------------E---------G-----------------D
Love you every day, girl, always on my mind
D-----------------E---------G------------------D
One thing I can say, girl, love you all the time

Chorus 2:

Bm--------G----------Bm--------E
Hold me, love me, hold me, love me

D----------------------E-------------G--------------D
I ain't got nothing but love, girl, eight days a week

Bridge 1:

Am----------------------------Bm
Eight days a week, I lo-oo-love you

E-------------------------G---------------C
Eight days a week, is not enough to show I care

Verse 3:
D--------------------E-------------G-------------------D
Ooh, I need your love, babe, guess I know it's true

D----------------------E-------------G-----------------D
Hope you need my love, babe, just like I need you

Chorus 3:

Bm--------G----------Bm---------E
Hold me, love me, hold me, love me

D-----------------------E--------------G---------------D
I ain't got nothing but love, babe, eight days a week

Bridge 2:

Am-----------------------------Bm
Eight days a week, I lo-oo-love you

E------------------------G----------------C
Eight days a week, is not enough to show I care

Verse 4:

D------------------E-----------G---------------D
Love you every day, girl, always on my mind

D------------------E----------G------------------D
One thing I can say, girl, love you all the time

Chorus 4:

Bm--------G----------Bm--------E
Hold me, love me, hold me, love me

D-----------------------E--------------G---------------D
I ain't got nothing but love, babe, eight days a week,

G--------------D-------G--------------D
Eight days a week, eight days a week

Outro:

D-DDD / E-EEE / G-GGG / D

Hope you all enjoy it.

p.s.

After three previews and re-types some of the chords still come a little too early for the lyrics but its not too bad. I've even tried coding but thats worse. Please forgive me.!

Nice one Chris,

but I must know how you are managing the Bm, or have you finally mastered the versatile barre chord ????

Bm simplified (as far as I know)

second fret on the high e string,
third fret on the b string
fourth fret on the g string
you can think of it as a Bm barre but you're only holding the high e on the seocnd fret, not the whole fret barred, and without using the pinky (although you can put it into place there if you want since the bass note is on the g string anyways and you don't play the d string at all at all)

Chris

Nice one mate, good to see so many posts on this board again.,

One thing that can spice up the "Hold me, love me" bit.
Bm--------G----------Bm--------E
Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
D-----------------------E--------------G---------------D
I ain't got nothing but love, babe, eight days a week

Ooops! Hit submit a bit too soon!!!

Anyway as I was saying -

on this bit -
Bm--------G----------Bm--------E
Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
D-----------------------E--------------G---------------D
I ain't got nothing but love, babe, eight days a week

You can add a bit of "colour" to an otherwuse strummed version, by adding in a bit of palm muting on this section.

So play normal strum Bm (Down up down is good), then while holding this chord shape, palm mute it (lay the edlge of your hand across the strings to deaden them, near the bridge) and then repeat a quick DUD strum on the deadened strings. You get a chuck a chuck sound that fits in well here.

All the best

Mat

nice post....that was one of my first songs, so I thought this might help also...according to the Beatles Guitar book I have...

first chord of Bridge

A
Eight Days a week....

Bmin
I looo-ooove you.

D
Eight Days a week,

E
is not enough to

G
show i

D
care

also...

Bmin
Hold me,

G6
love me

Bmin
Hold me,

E
love me

intro riff....and outtro riff

fret the high e string with your index at the 5 fret, the G and B strings at the 7th fret with your ring and pinky (4x)...then move the whole form up so that your index is now on the 7th fret (4x), then move the whole thing up so that your index rests on the tenth fre(4x).

Meet me tonight in Atlantic City

Hi everyone,

Never knew this one would create so much feedback, its good though.

To Rodders,
Nice one Chris,

but I must know how you are managing the Bm,

Yes I have mastered only the Bm as a barre and can just about change to it. I'm afraid you will all have to wait for me to master other barre chords.

To Matt,

tried out the palm muteing as you suggested. It works great and is easier than I thought.

And many thanks to all you others who have responded to this post.

Chris

Great Beginners song, Chris:

I put new strings on my 12 string this morning; (always a pain!--but I'm getting better at it).

:)

Played this song, and it sounded wonderful. (Used the easy Bm, as I am still a beginner...)

Thank you,

If you're having trouble with that pesky Bm chord....here's a simplified version that doesn't involve ANY barre chords....

INTRO...

G/A/C/G

(G)Ooh, I need your (A)love, babe, (C)guess you know it's (G)true,
(G)Hope you need my (A)love, babe, (C)just like I need (G)you.

CHORUS....

(Em)Hold me, (C)love me, (Em)hold me, (A)love me,
I (G)ain't got nothing but (A)love, babe, (C)eight days a (G)week.

OK, the other verses and choruses simply follow the same pattern....

BRIDGE...

(D)Eight days a week, I (Em)lo-oo-love you,
(A)Eight days a week, is (C)not enough to (D)show I care...

See? Not a barre chord in sight!!! Ok, it's in a different key....but I could play along with Chris's version by simply putting a capo on the fifth fret and playing the above chord shapes.....

If you're OK with the above chords and want to jazz up the intro and outro a bit, try this....

G-G/C/G A-A/D/A C-C/F/C G

The C to F change isn't too hard if you do it like this....

(C) E A D G B E.....(F) E A D G B E
..... 3 3 2 0 1 0......... X 3 3 2 1 X

Your first finger stays in the same place on the B string, use that as a pivot and simply move the other three fingers across a string......

Nice'n'easy, always goes down well in the pub anyway!!!!

:) :) :)

Thanks Vic for the simplified version, seems great with or without the capo but I'm not too sure of the last line of the bridge. It doesn't seem to fit or sound right with the A chord on `not enough to'.

Am I not getting it right or should it be Em there?

Help Vic!

I've got to get good with this song as its the only Beatles song my wife Trish absolutely loves! I love her to bits and I'd like to play it to her soon, afterall she had the faith in me two years ago to buy me the guitar.

Best regards

Chris

Is this ever a fun song!
Played Vic's "simplified" version and it sounded great with capo at the fifth fret.
Gonna play it again after a few beers (merely as an artistic experiment  )
Thanks guys!
