Jemima Surrender – The Band (Helm /Robertson )

Can't stop listening to The band these days. I saw drop D tuning was recently discussed on another forum. Here's one for you :).

Have put together bits and pieces from here and there. Added some and subtracted a little. As usual Robbie is not overdoing anything on the guitar: just a little fill in between here and there - so sweet! I've tried to indicate some of the fills below

- here we go:

Drop D tuning (D A D G B E)

intro

E|-------------------------------------
B|-------------------------------------
G|-------------------------------------- (repeat)
D|-------------------------------------
A|----3---4---0---3---4--5-------0----
D|----3---4---0---3---4------b3--0----

Intro second part

E|--------------------------------------
B|--------------------------------------
G|--------------------------------------
D|--------------------------------------
A|-----0-0--2-2--3-3--4-----------------
D|-----0-0--2-2--3-3--4-----------------

The chords in the verse seem to be mostly powerchords – i.e. D:000xxx E:222xxx F:333xxx G:555xxx A:777xxx
Add a 6th two frets up on the A string and a 7th three frets up:

D (intro)E7
Jemima Surrender, I'm gonna give it to you,
G A7 (fill 1)
Ain't no pretender, gonna ride in my canoe.
D(intro) G F
If I were a barker in a girly show,
D (intro)G F
Tell ya what I'd do,
D G A (fill2)
I'd lock the door, tear my shirt and let my river flow.
G Em
Oh, oh, Sweet Jemima wont'cha come out tonight?
G A7 D(intro)
The ground is so warm and the moon is so bright!

Jemima Surrender, that’s all you have to do,
I'll bring over my Fender
And I'll play all night for you (fill 3)
There's a bird on my head and his mouth won't talk,
(oo won’t talk)
You know he laughs just like a goose,
But looks like a hawk (fill 4)
Jemima, you know what I'm try'n to say,
Meet me in front and we'll fly away.(intro)
Guitar solo: |D |D |G |A |D|D|G|A|
F G
You can change your name
C
You can find a new walk
E
You can change a lock, its all the same
F G
You don't have to give out
C
If you'll only give in
A
You can jump and shout

But can't you see girl, that I'm bound to win (second part of intro)

Jemima Surrender, I'm gonna give it to you,
Ain't no pretender, gonna see my tattoo;(fill 5)
I hand you my rod and you hand me that line,
That's what you do, now, we ain't doing much fishin'
Or drinkin' any wine.(fill 6)
Sweet Jemima, if I were king
I'd fix you up with a diamond ring.
