Hi all,

here's another for you all to add to the number one singles list here that Vic and shug have started. Yup its one of Paul's great songs. This is really easy although not strickly a guitar type song, its more keyboard orientated but works great as a nice solo acoustic anthem.

You can slap a Capo on the fifth fret or the third or not at all. It all depends on how high your voice is

Intro:

G// D// Em// C// G// D// C// G//

Verse 1:

When I (G)find myself in (D)times of trouble

(Em)Mother Mary (C)comes to me

(G)Speaking words of (D)wisdom, let it (C)be (G)

(G)And in my hour of (D)darkness

She is (Em)standing right in (C)front of me

(G)Speaking words of (D)wisdom, let it (C) (G)

Chorus 1:

(G)Let it be (Em)let it be, (D)let it be, (C)let it be (G)

(G)Whisper words of (D)wisdom, let it be (C) (G)

Verse 2:

And (G)when the broken (D)hearted people

(Em)Living in the (C)world agree

(G)There will be an (D)answer, let it be (C) (G)

(G)for though they may be (D)parted there is

(Em)Still a chance that (C)they will see

(G)there will be an (D)answer, let it be (C) (G)

Chorus 2:

(G)Let it be (Em)let it be, (D)let it be, (C)let it be (G)

(G)Yeah there will be an (D)answer, let it be (C) (G)

(G)Let it be (Em)let it be, (D)let it be, (C)let it be (G)

(G)Whisper words of (D)wisdom, let it be (C) (G)

Instrumental Break:
now here's where George's solo comes in, way to clever for little old me!
So I think these are the rythum chord progs that John used played under the solo:
If wrong please enlighten me anyone. Come on Vic, Rodders or Shug, bet you cant resist sussing george's solo!! See the vid link below lads

C// G// D// C// G// C// G// D// C// G//

G// D// Em// C// G// D// C// G//

Chorus 3:

(G)Let it be, (Em)let it be, (D)ah let it be, (C)yeah let it be (G)

(G)Whisper words of (D)wisdom, let it be (C) (G)

Verse 3:

And (G)when the night is (D)cloudy

(G)There is (Em)still a light that (C)shines on me

(G)Shine until to(D)morrow, let it be (C) (G)

(G)I wake up to the (D)sound of music

(Em)Mother Mary (C)comes to me

(G)Speaking words of (D)wisdom, let it be (C) (G)

Chorus 4:

(G)Yeah let it be, (Em)let it be, (D)let it be, (C)yeah let it be (G)

(G)oh there will be an (D)answer, let it be (C) (G)

(G)Let it be, (Em)let it be, (D) ah let it be, (C)yeah let it be (G)

(G)Whisper words of (D)wisdom, let it be (C) (G)

Outro:

C// G// D// C// G/

Have fun with it,

Chris

ps and here's a link to the fab four playing it! plus Billy Preston of course:

OOOH the memories !!!!!!!!!!!

Chris instead of doing this G// D// Em// C// G// D// C// G// for the intro

Try this G// D// Em// C// G// D// C/ Em/ Em7B/ G/

It has more of the original walk down feel to the intro

Em7/B is really simple as its

EADGBe
x22033

Or in your case

eBGDAE
33022x

Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

Interesting...I'm learning this in my weekly group class, but like this:
C/G/Am/F
C/G/F(2)/C(2)-Verse

Am/G/F/C
---/G/F(2)/C(2)-Chorus
There's more than one way to skin a cat, as my dad says!

ETA: I can post the intro I patched together, plus the actual chord structure, in a little while.

"Let it Be"-Class version w/ homemade intro

e ------------------------------|-----------------------------|
B ---------------------------------|--------------------------|
G ---------------------------------|--------------------------|
D –--------5--5---3---2-----2----|---------5--5--3--2------|
A -3--3------------------5----3---|--3--3---------------5---|
E-------3-------------------------|--------3--------------3--|

C G Am F
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
C G F(2x)C(2x)
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
C G Am F
And in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me
C G F(2x)C(2x)
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Am G F C
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
C G F(2x)C(2x)
There will be an answer, let it be
Am G F C
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
C G F(2x)C(2x)
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

I don't know where my teacher got this version, but I think it sounds pretty good. We learned the "F" chord that week, so this tied some things together for us. The intro is something I pulled out of the air, trying to remember the song. I like how it ends on the root(?) note of the "C" chord-hold it a beat and it's a good transition.

Chris, thanks for this Beatles classic . . . and thanks Indiana for the open chord version (which is what I play). Get two guitarists together to play Chris' 5th fret version along with the open version, and you really have something!!

One really cool sounding thing to do is on the 1st line of each verse, replace the F chord with an Fmaj7 (x33210) . . . then, once you get that mastered play an F6 bar chord (131231) a couple of beats later. For example:

C G Am Fmaj7 F6
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me

Switch from Fmaj7 to F6 by keeping the middle and ring fingers anchored, and forming a bar on the 1st fret with the index finger while moving the pinky to the 3rd fret of the 2nd string.

Try it, I think you'll like it!

I like that twist...plus it gets me away from the FMaj chord, which is not the easiest to play. Good stuff!

Hi indiana_jonesin

Instead of playing

C G F(2x)C(2x)
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Try,, when you get to the F play F once then Em once, then G once then C once...

again it gives you the walkdown effect much like the original recording

Thanks! I've been practicing this for a bit now. The walkdown I've been doing has been F to Em to Dm to C.

I'll have to try the F - Em - G - C walkdown. That Em to Dm switch has been killing me!

Thanks again.

I don't play the lead, but I can offer these chords and notes I play based on the open (key of C) version and using Dm as part of the walk-down. The double stops make for a pretty descent transition and aren't too hard. I suggest using the index and ring fingers for the first 3 double-stops on the e & B strings; the index for the 4th double-stop; the index and middle fingers for the 5th, 6th and 8th double-stops; and the middle on the last one.
Lead [& Solo]: Play Chords 1x then notes 1x

F Em Dm C Bb F G F C

e|--5---3-1--0------------------|
B|--6---5-3--1---3-1--0---------|
G|---------------4-2--0---2---0-|
D|------------------------3---2-|
A|------------------------------|
E|------------------------------|

And, the question we have all been dying to ask---What strum pattern do you use? Looks like downstrokes would be a place to start, but I don't have my guitar here.

This is a way late answer; I don't know if anyone is still interested. When I've tried Let It Be (the intro at least, never got all the way through) various times over the years I just used a D U D U strum pattern. I think it mimics the piano more closely, because these songs are a slower tempo. I do the same with Imagine. All my strums are D U D U. Sounds pretty faithful (to me anyway) to the piano version. Sometimes simplest is best. I think Hey Jude will be the same way when I get to it.

It is difficult to answer when one does not understand the question.
