This song's been on the radio recently. I particularly like it - maybe I'm sentimental or something. I found a tab at Ultimate-Guitar that was almost correct (it has C, which is incorrect. The right one is Bm).

I'm not so sure of the strumming pattern yet, but I was excited about applying the tiny bit of music theory I know to figure out the right chord.

Hope this helps out other beginners. I know in the few months I've been playing the easy song database has been great. :) (If you can do the Hotel California from here, you can do this)

Look at this Photograph, everytime I do it makes me laugh,

I like that song too, but I've always liked Nickelback (I saw them twice live, they put on great live shows).

Agreed - I went to go see Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, 3 Doors Down and Thornley at a show a year back with my sister, cause she LOVES Nickelback - and she was right, Nickelback was THE BAND to see on that tour. They were amazing, people bash them without any good reason at all!

Henry Garza, Saul Hudson, and Darrell Abbott could not be here tonight, but they all had sex and are proud to announce the birth of their two-headed baby, Rodya S. Thompson.

If you happen to own their "Live at Home" Dvd it's got a great song on it called "Mistake", unfortunately it's not on any of their albums for some reason, but it's probably my favorite song of theirs. It's completely acoustic and seems to be pretty easy to play. Anyways, it's probably another recommendation if you're a beginner.

I usually play it ddud d dudu ddud d dudu. Not exactly right I don't think, but close. I usually play this song with barre chords, I am going to try this version, though. In case anybody wants it, the tab I used is on taborama.com It sounds good to me.

This is a really cool song that is easy to play.

The version of the song I have doesn't have this line in it. I just skips and goes straight to the line about singing to his steering wheel.????? :?: :?: :?:

I haven't looked at any tab for this song, but I have the CD and that line is in the song. My guess is whoever made the tab deleted the line or forgot to add it.

BTW, the whole CD is most excellent!

I, too, find this song very appealing.

Next week at band rehearsal I'm going to suggest we learn it to get some more contemporary music on our list.

Thanks for the post. You've been most helpful.

TIP 1 ~ It's not Bm or regular C, it's Cadd9 = X 3 2 0 3 3
TIP 2 ~ It's a D chord at the end of the verses 2 & 3, just prior to the oh oh oh "G" oh God I. So the progression is D, A, C+9, G & D twice on Verse One. With Verse Two & Three is D, A, Cadd9, G & D, then D, A, Cadd9, G, D, G.
TIP 3 ~ To play along with the original recording... CAPO FIRST FRET!

Here's what I tabbed out.

PHOTOGRAGH – NICKELBACK (Capo 1st Fret - Key of D#/Eb)

VERSE 1: (C+9 = X 3 2 0 3 3 & G = 3 2 0 0 3 3 )

D A C+9
LOOK AT THIS PHOTO-GRAPH. EVERY TIME I DO IT MAKES ME LAUGH.
G D
HOW DID OUR EYES GET SO RED? AND WHAT THE HELL IS ON JOEY'S HEAD?
A C+9
AND THIS IS WHERE I GREW UP. I THINK THE PRESENT OWNER FIXED IT UP.
G D
I NEVER KNEW WE EVER WENT WITH-OUT. THE SECOND FLOOR IS HIGH FOR SNEAKIN' OUT.

VERSE 2:

(D) A C+9
AND THIS IS WHERE I WENT TO SCHOOL. MOST OF THE TIME HAD BETTER THINGS TO DO.
G D
CRIMINAL RECORD SAYS I BROKE IN TWICE. I MUST HAVE DONE HALF A DOZEN TIMES.
A C+9
I WONDER IF IT'S TOO LATE. SHOULD I GO BACK AND TRY TO GRADU-ATE?
G D
LIFE'S BETTER NOW THAN IT WAS BACK THEN. IF I WAS THEM I WOULDN'T LET ME IN__
G
OH OH OH... OH GOD I!

CHORUS: D
EVERY MEMORY OF LOOKIN' OUT THE BACK DOOR.
A
I HAD THE PHOTO ALBUM SPREAD OUT ON MY BEDROOM FLOOR
C+9 G
IT'S HARD TO SAY IT, TIME TO SAY IT. GOOD-BYE, GOOD-BYE.
D
EVERY MEMORY OF WALKIN' OUT THE FRONT DOOR,
A
I FOUND THE PHOTO OF THE FRIEND THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR
C+9 G D
IT'S HARD TO SAY IT, TIME TO SAY IT. GOOD-BYE, GOOD-BYE-I-I.

VERSE 3:

(D) A C+9
REMEMBER THE OLD AR-CADE? BLEW EVERY DOLLAR THAT WE EVER MADE.
G D
THE COPS HATED US HANGING OUT. THEY SAY SOMEBODY WENT AND BURNED IT DOWN.
A C+9
WE USE TO LISTEN TO THE RADI-O. AND SING ALONG WITH EVERY SONG WE'D KNOW.
G
WE SAID SOMEDAY WE'D FIND OUT HOW IT FEELS.
D
TO SING TO MORE THAN JUST THE STEERING WHEEL.
A C+9
KIM'S THE FIRST GIRL I KISSED. I WAS SO NERVOUS THAT I NEARLY MISSED.
G
SHE'S HAD A COUPLE OF KIDS SINCE THEN.
D G
I HAVEN'T SEEN HER SINCE GOD KNOWS WHEN__ OH OH OH... OH GOD I!

CHORUS: D
EVERY MEMORY OF LOOKIN' OUT THE BACK DOOR.
A
I HAD THE PHOTO ALBUM SPREAD OUT ON MY BEDROOM FLOOR
C+9 G

IT'S HARD TO SAY IT, TIME TO SAY IT. GOOD-BYE, GOOD-BYE-I-I.

BRIDGE: (Dsus2 = X X 0 2 3 0 & Asus2 = X 0 2 2 0 0 / * = single strum)

| Dsus2 | Asus2 | D

A C G D
I MISS THAT TOWN. I MISS THEIR FACES. YOU CAN'T E-RASE. YOU CAN'T RE-PLACE IT.
A C G D*
I MISS IT NOW. I CAN'T BE-LIEVE IT. SO HARD TO STAY. TO HARD TO LEAVE IT.
A* C+9*
IF I COULD RELIVE THOSE DAYS. I KNOW THE ONE THING THAT WOULD NEVER CHANGE.

CHORUS: D
OUTTRO: EVERY MEMORY OF LOOKIN' OUT THE BACK DOOR.

LOOK AT THIS PHOTO-GRAPH. EVERY TIME I DO IT MAKES ME LAUGH.
G*
EVERY TIME I DO IT MAKES ME.

Don't own a capo? Shame on you! But I've seen and played the song on a guitar tuned down a half a step using thse chords... as it may have been done on the original recording:

TUNED DOWN A HALF STEP:
Eb Bb Db Ab

I too have heard both versions and I own a DJ service. I get a variety of new music on a CD weekly from RPM (Radio Programming Management) also know as Top Hits USA. So I pulled two extremely similar versions of this song in my show and listened to both. The one without those lyrics is the "pop edit" where there's a pop sounding bridge played after the Chorus prior to Verse 3. The one with those lyrics is the "rock edit" where there's no bridge in-between the Chorus and Verse 3.

FYI: The pop edit version showed up first the third week of August, possibly before the full CD was released. The rock edit version showed up second around the last week of September... probably about the time of the full CD release if I had to guess.

(insert the right stuff here)

I just picked up my guitar, looked at your version for about 2 minutes, listened to the song once (had never heard the whole thing before) and then promptly played it all the way through with the recording. The chords sound perfect and the capo does the trick. This is definitely my kind of easy song!

Now I just have to learn the words. :D

Thanks go to everyone, yet another song I'll be able to add to my playlist! :)

I have to bump this again :)

I have an unintentional habit of leaning songs that my wife (who is Mrs. Music Critic) absolutely hates....

Turns out, she not only likes but LOVES this song, and I accumulated about 5000 cool points by learning it. :D

I'm not so sure of the strumming pattern yet, but I was excited about applying the tiny bit of music theory I know to figure out the right chord.

The strumming pattern goes like this (every '-' is a sixteenth note):

In the verse and bridge (the Bm, G progression) this pattern is strummed for every chord:

D U UD UD DU U
----------------

In the chorus this pattern is strummed for every chord:
Chorus:

D UD D D DU U
----------------

A little tricky. I am keeping a steady up / down strum throughout the pattern. I also started very slowly with a metronome to get the correct motions. The pattern is not the same for the whole song. After nailing the basic pattern create a few variations, eg. leave out the upstrums in the middle.

Happy playing,

Patrick

it is in barre chords fellas. if you watch the food it is clear he uses barre chords:
Dsus2 A# C# G# F# G#
|-6---| |--6--| |--9---| |--4--| |--2--| |--4--|
|-6---| |--6--| |--9---| |--4--| |--2--| |--4--|
|-8---| |--7--| |--10--| |--5--| |--3--| |--5--|
|-8---| |--8--| |--11--| |--6--| |--4--| |--6--|
|-6---| |--8--| |--11--| |--6--| |--4--| |--6--|
|-----| |--6--| |--9---| |--4--| |--2--| |--4--|

those are the chords, and i think you can figure out where to put them seeing as i don't have the time. but ya.
