Please read this in Courier New. It's a quite simple and nice song.

RUNAWAY TRAIN - Soul Asylum

Just have a guitar tuned in standard (EADGBE).

The strumming is quite simple:

1   2   3   4
|---|---|---|---
D   D U   U D U

Intro: C

C                   C
Call you up in the middle of the night
Em                Em
Like a firefly without a light
Am                     Am
You were there like a blowtorch burning
G                      G
I was a key that could use a little turning
C                C
So tired that I couldn't even sleep
Em              Em
So many secrets I couldn't keep
Am                Am
I promised myself I wouldn't weep
G                G
One more promise I couldn't keep

PRE-CHORUS
F                    G
It seems no one can help me now,
   C                    Am
I'm in too deep; there's no way out
 F               Em         G
This time I have really led myself astray

CHORUS
C               C
Runaway train, never going back
Em             Em
Wrong way on a one-way track
Am                      Am
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
G                    G
Somehow I'm neither here nor there

G (have a pause at the end)

USE THE SAME CHORDS AS FIRST VERSE
Can you help me remember how to smile?
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded?
Life's mystery seems so faded
I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just a-drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train

     F               G
And everything seems cut and dried,
C              Am
Day and night, earth and sky,
F       Em             G       G
Somehow I just don't believe it

REPEAT CHORUS

SOLO: C C Em Em Am Am G G
     F G C Am F Em G G

INTERLUDE:
C
Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Em
Like a madman laughing at the rain
Am
A little out of touch, a little insane
G
It's just easier than dealing with the pain

REPEAT CHORUS

FINAL CHORUS: ALTERNATE LYRICS BUT SAME CHORDS
Runaway train, never coming back
Runaway train, tearing up the track
Runaway train, burning in my veins
I run away but it always seems the same

C C Em Em Am Am G G

End on C

NOTE: If someone is interested, I can post the solo and intro lick.

The second acoustic guitar is also very simple, but it may require some practice. Call a friend to play along the chords with you and it'll sound great. The tab's here:
