I think it's time for another Uriah Heep's number! This song is the opener of their 1972 “Magician's birthday” album, one of their masterpieces too. The song is a moderate pace one (I guess around 70-80 bpm) and it is very interesting to play for beginners. The chords are well know ones (Am, F, G, C, D) plus the E7 which could be subsituted by a Em. In any case I play it with the following fingering:

E7: xx1x2x

Regarding the chord changes, if we take the first two lines it's like Am (2 measures), F (half measure), G (half measure), Am (1 measure). Repeat the same structure for all the lines in the verses. In the bridge they change each half measure in every line but you should check with the cd.

Strummin: I play it alongside the cd with the following rhythm in term of beats:

beat 1: bb
beat 2: ddu
beat 3: bb
beat 4: ddu

where bb are two octave bass notes, played on the root note of the chord and ddu are one octave and two sixtheen notes. It's a bit tricky at the beginning but if you tap your foot it should divided as it follows:

tap the foot: play first bass note
raise the foot: play second bass note
tap the foot: play the first downstrum
raise the foot: play the two sixtheens down and up strums

The sound you should reach is something like “dun,dun,ta_,tata” where of course the “ta_” is as long as the two quick “tata”.

Hope it's not too confusing...

The song could also be played with a simpler strummin playing

DD D DD D for every measure, accenting the second and fourth beat.

Anyway here is the song and let me know any mistakes

Matteo

Hear my song

And foolin' around
But from now on
Till who knows when
My sword will be my pen
And I'll love you, love you
For all of my time

p.s. regarding the chords I took them from the http://home.online.no/~prannug/heep/heeptabs.htm site where you could find several Heep songs tabbed courtesy of a Norwegian Heep fan. Props to him for the excellent job.
