Mothers day is not far off so I thought I'd post the song I'm doing in church on that Day.
Randy Travis recorded it on his album Rise and Shine. I capo the first fret when I do it. That Bm7 is
a hard one for me but it only takes practice :D The song is written in Bb and is very difficult, for me anyway.
I think most advanced beginners should be able to play this version.
When Mama Prayed
Roy Lee/Paul Overstreet

1.
G C G
Daddy never went to church on Sunday
C G
He said "that's one thing I'll never do"
C G
But Mama never gave up she said "one day
Am D D7
He'll be sitting here beside me and you"
G C G
I can still hear Mama softly talking
C G
Her tears falling on her folded hands
C G
So that Easter Sunday Daddy walked in
Am D
That's when I began to understand

Chorus

D Em C G
When Mama prayed good things happened

When Mama prayed lives where changed
D Em D G C
Not much more than five foot tall but mountains big and small
Am D Em C Em D

G C G
Seventeen and wild I hit the bottle
C G
Doing anything I dang well pleased
C G
Burning down life's highway at full throttle
Am D D7
While Mama burned a candle on her knees
G C G
Then one night I came home half sober
C G
I saw Mama kneeling in the den
C G
As I listened, she and Jesus talked it over
Am D
And I knew my restless days were bout to end, Cause

Chorus

3.
Bm7 C2
It isn't like every one of them got answered
G D
But the times they weren't it seems to me were rare
Bm7 C2
You almost felt sorry for the devil
G Am D
Cause heaven knows he didn't have a prayer,

When Mama prayed________

Bridge: Em C2 G D Em C2 G D

Thanks for your contribution, Tim! I'll have to look this one up on youtube....

Oh, and can I ask a favour? Could you make a note in the "ESD Submissions" thread when you add new songs in future? Makes it easy to keep track of things and update the indexes.

Thank you,

:D :D :D

Sure thing Vic. Sorry about that, it's been awhile since I posted a song and I didn't know about this procedure. Good idea I'll comply in the future.

Tim, it's not mandatory, just a help for ME - means I can look back through the last few submissions, add them to the index, and post that we're up-to-date, and say what I've added. And for the benefit of yourself, and others, to save you a little time, don't bother posting a url to the new song - just tell me you've put it in. I look through each new song, copy the link then fool about with the index - or these days, both indexes.

By the way. looking back through this song, I notice a C2 chord - would you care to tell us how you're playing that particular chord? To me, it means a C chord with an added 2nd note(D, in the scale of C) in the voicing - which would be a Cadd9 chord. x32033 or x32030.....?

I play C2 like this X30010, yes you could call it a Cadd9.
