Good one Rodders,

One of those great Beatle covers of a "Smokey Robinson" song from their early years. From the "With The Beatles" album I do beleive.

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)

Sounds great - just tried it out....

You didn't tab any chords out Rodders, so I had to work the A9 out for myself at the end.....

E 0
B 2
G 2
D 2
A 2
E 0

A bit tricky, but I managed it by covering four strings with three fingers like a normal A chord...one occasion where big clumsy fingers come in handy!!!

Cheers Rodders....now get working on "Merry Xmas Everybody" for that Xmas day get-together!!!!!

:D :D :D

This song was originally written by Smokey Robinson (The Miracles) in 1962 but I don't ever remember hearing him sing it. I have heard it by the Beatles, Cindy Lauper, Percy Sledge and a few others.

Great song.

Here is a bit of background on this one.

Group leader Smokey Robinson wrote this for his wife Claudette after hearing Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me" on the radio. (thanks, Brad Wind - Miami, FL)
Claudette was a singer in the group. She and Robinson had 2 children - Berry, named after Motown president Berry Gordy, and Tamla, named after Gordy's record label The Miracles recorded on.
When Motown was growing into a dominant label in 1962, they set up a tour where many of their acts performed together around the United States. For many people, this was their first look at Motown acts like The Supremes, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. This was the biggest Motown hit at the time, so The Miracles closed the shows with it.
The Beatles recorded this in 1963. They performed it in their last movie, Let It Be.
The Beatles were the first big British band to come to America and admit they were influenced by black music. Robinson admired this, and felt they helped black artists by covering their songs.

This address will give some more info and some sound bytes.

Enjoy and a Merry Christmas to all at GN,

Rod.

Well Nils

If you want to hear Smokey sing this, get yourself a copy of "Jools holland & friends 3 (Jack O The Green)"

Track 3 and there it is in all its glory

I knew I'd heard him singing it somewhere before and going through my cd collection tonight etc etc
