Since I use my overdrive pedal's volume to drive the front of my amp, will a delay pedal only repeat what the pedal is putting out?

And since I have the overdrive pedal's volume full up, won't that make the repeats super loud in contrast with the amp?

Will the overdrive pedal's output overdrive the delay pedal too?

I don't have an effects loop in my amp.

if you don't already,
try turning the guitar volume up all the way before the overdrive.
mine works much better this way.
then control the volume with a volume pedal or the pedal itself.
i'm sure Wes or one of the others will be able to explain what i mean better.

Thanks but that won't work for me, as I use my guitar's volume to regulate distortion.

Well I guess the first question is a bit redundant, of course the delay could only repeat what I gave it... I'm a little slow somtimes.

But have been thinking about this and my questions have changed a bit anyway.

I guess I should set the delay pedal's output level to be as loud as what my boost pedal is kicking out and the amp's overdrive will distort the repeats just like it distorts my boost pedal alone... right?

I don't know what you can do, you stated you keep the overdrive pedal full up, and you don't have an effects loop. So what you've got is what you get, you don't really have any options there.

I am not big on delay, but I use it on a very few songs like Comfortably Numb. I use an overdrive pedal as well on this song, maybe halfway up. It doesn't seem to affect the delay at all to me, it works as it should. I run everything straight into the amp even though I have an effects loop.

If your delay has a setting for output, set it to get the volume you want during a solo.

Thanks Wes. I don't own a delay pedal but I just borrowed one and though I haven't tried it out yet this is how I think it will go:

The repeats will distort the amp like my normally boosted signal will, as the repeats decay the amp will distort them less and they will morph into whatever my pedal sounds like before it hits the amp. The delay pedal i want to buy has this effect anyway:
