My bass amp head has a XLR out jack. I want to use it to run to my mixer for recording. Is it better to use an XLR -> XLR cable or XLR -> 1/4"?

If the mixer has XLR inputs, then XLR-XLR.

If the mixer has 1/4" inputs, then XLR-1/4". However, you may need an impedance-matching transformer, such as this:

Yeah, use XLR to XLR, no signal loss even on very long cable runs. Less noise too.

Thanks guys. The mixer does have 2 XLR inputs, so I will pick up an XLR -> XLR cable.
