So, I'm a beginner, taking lessons and I want to play around with some effects. I have a yamaha ga-10 amp that I play through. I looked on craigslist and found a peavey deltafex for $50. It's supposed to be rack-mounted, but can I just have it sitting on my dresser(I play in in my room)? Or there's a zoom 707 and zoom g2 for the same price. Quick answers please, because I'm only at my aunt's house until Monday at the latest.

I've got a Digitech RP355 and a Digitech RP55 for sale. Both are mint. Let me know if you have an interest.

Rack mounting is just for convenience, there's no law that says you have to mount it.

As a beginner, any multi-effect is going to give you something to mess with, and let you discover what the different effects sound like, and what you can use them for.

Once you discover what you like, and don't like (comes with experience) then you can upgrade to whatever you need to get the sound you hear in your head.

I own a Digitech RP355 and like it a lot (it's not for sale).
