it is early in the morning. I am repeating an experience I had with my amp, cord and old lap steel.
the jack end that was plugged into the lpa steel was very warm to the touch after a session of playing.
I turned my amp on this morning , warming it. I can hear a nasty buzz and a radio DJ talking faintly.
somedays my amp is noisy. some days not. it is very very rare I hear a radio.
any thoughts?

It's possible that your lead is working as an aerial. One way to stop that sort of thing is to tie a knot in it. If you look at USB or firewire cables they have a small plastic do-da (this is the technical term for it, I believe :) ), which effectively does the same thing as a knot.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

thanks greybeard...think I will 'do da' my cord and see what happens.

it has been strange around the hood lately. the full moon had everyone tossing and turning.

The wall plug is generally the problem with radio stations coming through, try another plug maybe.

Ferrite beads or cores may help as well.

this does not occur often. some days the amp is quiet. I must have noisy electricity.
one day my acoustic electric was humming like someone was inside the darn thing. I tested the battery and it was very strong.
the next time I played the acoustic...totally quiet.

perhaps it is time to purchase the expensive power conditioners.

I remember that happening a lot back in the 70's, Mostly with tube amps. I had a Princeton reverb and a silvertone twin that picked up WLS. I also remember the neighbors complaining that they were hearing us on the TV (Most T.V.'s were still using tubes then) Probably through the P.A which was powered by a Fender Bandmaster head.

I used to get American Forces Radio on the amp when I was in Germany - and that was down in my basement. It stopped once I got back to the UK.
