Hi Folks. I've got a Fender Blues Deluxe that has what they are referring to an effects loop. It says that I connect the PREAMP OUT to my pedals' input and then the pedal's output to the POWER AMP IN.

Right now, I've got my guitar going into the pedals and the pedals going into input 1 (where you would plug the guitar in)

So, my question is this. Which method is preferred, or, what's the pros and cons doing it each way?

RP,

Those plugs are a feature that allows you to put your amp in the effect chain -vs- 'behind' the chain.

There's no right or wrong answer to this, but alot of folks put their OD/DS type effect in "Front" of their amps then time related effects behind the pre-amp, so you'd get this:

Example:
Guitar > TubeScreamer > AMP's Main IN > Loop/Efx Out > Flanger or Delay or Phaser > Loop/Efx IN > Power Amp > Speaker.

What this lets you do is put different effects along the "Chain". Some are better out front, some behind the preamp but again its personal preference.

Now you know.... if you use this "Chain" feature, you'll need two more cables, and if your gigging or are on stage they will need to be the same length as your lead cable (Guitar to Amp) else you walk back to the amp every time to click on/off one of them.

Here's a few articles about Effects Orders:

Hope these help.

great links. I always just try to have fun experimenting. I'd like to get that "one" sound and keep it for a while, but I don't do gigs right now, so I just keep searching.

It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!
