I bought a Zoom G2.1u multi-effects unit last year in Sept of 2006 from Zzounds, and over time the USB jack has come loose in its casing, so I can no longer plug in the USB cable to it. I had a look at the back but there doesn't seem to be a way of opening up the box without using serious force.

I had a look at Zoom's website (and that of their US distributor, Samson), but it's not clear whether the unit comes with any kind of warranty. I checked my Zzounds receipt and I didn't pay specifically for any warranty plan at the time.

Am I screwed? I gave Samson a call but they're closed, so I'll be trying them again on Monday.

But what is exactly the problem? I was viewing my unit and the USB connector do not have any spring or mechanism for linking to the other connector. The Zoom's USB is a normal connector, similar to printers, hard disk external units, etc. Did you check with another cable?

It's a normal USB jack, the problem on mine is that it's come loose so that it's resting too far inside the body of the unit for me to plug the USB cord into it.

Until recently it wasn't quite as loose and I was able to kinda tilt the cable until it connected properly, but now that no longer works. The USB jack itself is resting too far inside, so that when I try to plug the USB cable into it, the tips of the USB cable's plug don't reach the connectors of the unit's USB jack. Something came loose or unglued or unfastened or something on whatever keeps the unit's USB jack flush against the casing of the unit, so it's loose and doesn't rest fully against the casing.

Ah! Ok! Sorry! I finally understood! :D

It seems the connector wasn't properly glued to the box. I guess the unit is in warranty. First I'd try to speak to Zzounds and, on depending the answer, I'd open the unit, the problem seems easy to fix.

Good luck and keep us informed! Sometimes the most difficult step is the box openning!

If there's a standard year warranty then I should be good! I was able to get the screws out of the bottom of the unit but it seemed like there might be other connectors and it didn't seem to want to come apart, so I'm hoping they'll be able to replace it! I'm really happy with this effects box too, I love the sounds and the USB thing is the only problem I've had with it! Otherwise it seems sturdy.

I agree Jeff, the Zoom G2 is a very good effects unit. And also it is very important the 'other' things such as the USB connection (BTW bidirectional), the rhythm box, the software (Cubase). I'm very happy too. An old GN member helped to me when I was looking for multi-effects.

It seems a problem in the USB connector of that unit. I hope Zzounds will change it! :D
