OK, I'm going outside my usual repertoire with this one.
Boogie's "bee vomit" gets its start here.
It's not ringing any bells for me...
I played it a little slow. Here's some hints...
The song is over 100 years old. The most famous recording was in the 20's and there was an instrumental recorded in 1955.
If songs were people, one of this song's son-in-laws would be "Walk the Line"
Uhmmm.... I think you are stretching my abilities here, but is it Freight Train? Not sure of the artist.
I may re-record it tomorrow, because I played it too slow.
I'll give enough hints that you should be able to figure it out with Google's help (I just checked, if you can't find it with google then your computer is probably unplugged :D )...
The most popular version was recorded by a Family with the same last name as the 39th President.
Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar after performing a version of the song playing an autoharp.
I would definitely like to "twine in her mingles" and would never neglect her if she were my pale _____ _____
Okay... with all those clues, that was a gimme... though I have not found a sample to prove me out, I am pretty certain it is:
Wildwood Flower - The Carter Family
That's it. Will I be receiving my "Suckiest GTR" certificate in the mail? :D
I don't have a recording of it, I learned it from my grandfather. There was an instrumental version I heard w/ the riff, but like I said, it was faster that what I played.
No worries. I've had my share of these kinds of riffs. I'll get my riff posted later...
I've got that one (least I think I do) if you get stuck, Boogie. 8)
^^^jw, that was a cool riff. Researching your clues I found a great lesson on the crosspicking style of the Carter family's version of the song:

JWMartin, Boxboy is right... that was quite a little musical history lesson.
Boxboy, if you've got my riff, guess and jump back in the game. :)

I've been second guessing my guess, cause the version I know isn't a guitar riff, but I'm going to guess:
All Blues Miles Davis

Woo hoo! We have a winner! I was hoping it would be recognizable. My instructor has me working on learning and playing along (I'm working on learning Miles 'riffs' and phrasing  ).
Boxboy, You are up.
I learned the start of All Blues when I was tackling the piano, so it rang a bell right away.
Your teacher has you learning those trumpet lines? That's some pretty heady stuff. You can explain it all to me when you're done!
Might be a bit before I can work up a riff, so if anyone has one ready, fire away...
:)
