What's the correct name for this chord : 1, 3, #5, 7
Is it an augmented7 or a major7(#5) or something completely different?
Well, if you can't make it, stay hard, stay hungry, stay alive, if you can, and meet me in a dream of this hard land.
C7aug5, sometimes written C7+5

I think he meant with an unflatted 7. In that case, I'd say Cmajor7#5 in C.
I'd agree, Argus.
There's really no such thing as an augmented 7th. Since an augmented chord is made up of all double whole-step intervals, the next one would fall on the octave - it's the opposite of the diminished 7th, which is 1-b3-b5-bb7 (all 1-1/2 step intervals).

Thanks. Is there a right way to write the #5? I've seen it in parentheses and without them?

There's no one accepted standard for chord alterations. #5 or +5, with parenthesis or without, as long as you get the idea across.

Even in a natural minor scale where the is a whole step between the 7th note and the octave??
like
A B D E F G A
A-G# would be an augmented 7th interval??
...wouldnt it?
but then again its easy to argue that its harmonic minor if it contains a G# in the piece of music which has a half step in between the 7th note and the octave..
so really ive just answered my own question but you saw my point.
