Chord in the nth position?

Hi, could somebody explain what is meant by the different positons of chords. For example:
"Play an A major in the 7th position" etc.
I'm guessing its a fairly simple answer, Thanks for any help.

The position is simply where up the neck you are playing.
Assigning 1 finger per fret the position you are playing at is the fret your index finger is assign to play.
So I would look to see what notes I would need to make an A chord at the 7th position. Notes A, C#, E
If I finger like this:
X,X,7,9,10,9 I get X,X,A,E,A,C#
X being unplayed or muted strings.
This is what I come up with for an Amaj in the 7th position.

That was my initial thought but i was thrown off by some incorrect information from someone. Thanks for clearing things up.
