Quite a statement. I have my own version:

Most guitarists don't know modes. Most guitarists who do know modes don't know how to use them. Most guitarists don't need to know modes. And modes are not for beginners - they're for intermediate to advanced guitarists.

Add in to that that most guitarists who do know and use modes, who amount to a few percent of all guitarists, use them as a shortcut to chromatic playing.

That's rather a bold statement to make without the courtesy of an explanation as to how you have arrived at that conclusion.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

You need to qualify your statements. That's beginner's stuff.

Modes are a difficult topic, one that can be both hard to understand and to apply.
