Theory Without Tears
By David Hodge
https://www.guitarnoise.com/article.php?id=3

near the bottom of the page this article talks about a D minor 7th chord

E A D G B E
X 0 0 2 1 1

i dont understand why you hit the A string .. acording to the paragraph right above the tab, it should be this, no?

E A D G B E
X X 0 2 1 1

Either one is fine. They're both Dm7.

Dm7 is spelled D F A C and so A is okay in the bass - this would be Dm7 in 2nd inversion.

alright, thanks

just to be clear, the reason that its ok is that the chord has an A in it right? so the extra bass A doesnt matter?

Welcome to the musical madhouse.

Yes, that's right, though typically you'd play it as you've listed it second because that voicing allows the D, which is the root note, to be the bass note as well.
