Janey, or maybe 'Out One Night'

A bit dark...

Janey was walking out on the road,
On a warm spring's night
Looking for some exercise and a bit of fresh air
Strolling over the hill after the fading twilight
She had her walkman on, listening to Blink 182
And didn't hear the coming of the van
With the shooter's sticker on the bumper
And the Brahma bull on the rear window

She didn't hear the door open,
The drunken boy's question or cry
She walked on ignorant of all her surrounds
And when he struck she couldn't think why
Her walkman stopped, mid-bridge
And her head hurt and her eyes were sore
Or why there was some blood on her cheek
And a faint breeze across her belly

As they left her body, bruised and broke
Lying under a tree in a valley, just down from highway 23
Used and abused, naked and bloody
But tucked away so no one would see

Two days later, as the light began to take hold
Jason drove by, his car loaded with fishing gear,
A wet weekend in the Snowies, drinking and swearing
At fish that would get close, ever so near
He drove by a shallow valley,
Looking at the scenary to the side of the highway
And saw the body of a naked girl
And jammed the brakes, stopped and wrapped her in his jacket

He rang for help, waited and kept her warm,
He started a fire and boiled a billy with tea
But she died just before the Ambulance arrived,
Crying in his arms, telling him of her struggles to be free
From the boys who caught and raped her
Again and again and left her cold
And as her last breath escaped through chattering teeth
He started to cry

I've managed to play it a few times, and it goes about 5-7 minutes, depending on the mood. It's just a simple nearly talking lyric over a Dm-Dsus4 pattern, with a change to Am-Em-Dm-Dsus for the final lines of the second, fourth and fifth verses.

Be gentle!

lois: 'Chris, women are not objects!'
peter: 'Your mother's right son, listen to what it says.'
