I just started this today.
It's written in a different kinda way (surprise).
Just thought I'd throw it up here.
It's pretty rough yet, and I don't feel that it's quite 'balanced' yet either.

Feel free to comment on it.
Or to ask the story behind it

Bringer of Light

I drew deep, that's right
feel it in your heart?
that's life
on the floor
on the page

well what's that
soft grass, tickles your feet
and you laugh
spilling
sunbeams
showered in light
you always know
green's my favorite color
and SO
Many - Stars
you can't count 'em all
they're as far as you can see
Yeah,
well.... anyway
here's how it works
get a kiss on the lips
for a flower in the spring

cos you know (I will be waiting)
we'll never be (I will be waiting)
Here
AGAIN (I will be waiting)
you & me (I will be waiting)
So Young (I will be waiting)
In love we'll be

Understand

begins to live more simply without"
-Ernest Hemingway

I'll wait till you've smoothed out any wrinkles before commenting fully, but for the life of me, I can't find anything that sticks out and screams "bad line....!"

Looks fine from here Ken, and yes, I DO know the story behind the song!

:D :D :D

LOL!
Thankx for the assist Vic! :D

Well, without going into the recesses of my mind - the short version is: Yes, it is about my son, Lucius.
That's about all I can manage right now.

Thankx for the interest Joe 8)

I'll get back to you more in depth tomorrow.

Well, the story behind it is pretty complicated.

Part of the seed came from when I picked my son up from school this last tuesday.
I picked him up and carried him out to the car.
When we got outside, he told me that he was going to marry Montana (a girl in his class).
I asked him if he was going to invite me to the wedding - and he said probably :)

Then he said that she was going to kiss him on the lips.
I asked him what he meant, and he said that in the spring time he was going to give her a flower
and that she would kiss him on the lips for it.
I thought that was a wonderful thing for him to say :D
He's always drawing and coloring pictures and they usually ALWAYS have an abundance of flowers in them.
After we got home, he colored a series of pictures with him and Montana - her holding the flower he had given her.

So, I got to thinking about how it seemed that he 'corrected' all the things in his life he didn't like with his drawings.
Or that he colored all the things he wished for and wanted to come true.
And that got me to thinking that maybe that's what art was about.
And what it might be like to see the world through his 'vision'.
Not only as a child, but as an artist.

I also mentioned in a different post about reading up about River Phoenix recently....
I can't explain it, but that made a profound impact on me.
I was very sadened about it, for him.

But, it also had other effects on me as well.
Strangely, I saw Lucius in the very young River.... which had the effect of making me feel what it must be like to lose ones own child.... or conversely, to die leaving behind a young child with no father.
I wondered what then, that Lucius would look like as he grew up.... Would he look anything similar to a more grown up River Phoenix?

Oddly, I also identified with the 'grown up' River.
We were the same age.
And in pictures that I saw of him as a rebellious, long haired young man wearing sunglasses - I saw myself at that same age.

So, thru this 'idea' of River Phoenix, I saw both myself, and my son.

Then the lyrics came.
Sort of a stripped down version of the story.
It's mostly about Lucius.... though at points, I seem to be talking about me (ie. green's my favorite color - that's actually Lucius' favorite color, so there HE would be talking - again I shift perspectives with a couple people intertwined as one)
In this case, it was nec. because of the feelings that the River story brought on.

The end of the verse brings a chorus of sorts - I had told my Girlfriend of the Flower/Kiss story and she said something about kissing me for a flower come spring - I said: I'll be waiting.... then wrote that into the song.

The chorus is cool, I think - because it speaks of Lucius/Montana - Lucius/Me - & My relationship with my Girlfriend all at the same time.

Maybe I'm having a mid-life crisis....? :P

Okay - You asked!

Ken

ps -
The title really has nothing to do with the debate between Ric and me about the meaning of the name Lucius.
I didn't have a name for this, and as I struggled with the 'sun' line - it struck me that I should name it 'Bringer of Light'
thankx to the debate.
And that decision 'colored' the sun line into something more :D
