Ok, So me and the band (ooh, i feel so rock and roll) are recording an EP in a few weeks. It shall consist of 5 songs.

I want to get copyright for this, how do I go about doing so?

Any suggestions would be helpful

Much obliged.

Peter

I don't know where you're at Peter, but I may be in a similar situation myself a couple of years down the road; and this is how I would do it:

Send in the recordings to ASCAP. You can copyright:

1. the recording
2. the sheet music

You don't need rhythmic notation in the sheet music, of couse, as rhythms are not copyrightable.

Anyhow, I would love to hear your band's stuff when it's ready.

As far as copyrighting goes, the actual copyright stands from when you wrote it, if I remember rightly. There are articles on the site about registering it. Copyrighting is only proving its yours at a particular time, so if you sell copies of your EP, I would think that would count as copyright; its proven to be yours from when it was released.

(sorry if that didn't make sense, I'm new to forums etc.)

Somnium Dulcis.
