Just joined, cool site! Is anybody worried somebody might steal their song? Posting on here? Or are the songs registered or copyrighted first? Sorry, maybe dumb question, just wondering before I post first song?[/img]

It would cost about $35 a to copyright each song, some folks would go broke here at that rate   i believe that once you write a song you are automatically the owner to that work, copyrighting it would just prove it in court( I'm not saying you should never copyright a song). By posting a song on this group, you have shown that on that date you have indeed submitted that song. Some writers mail them self a copy of the song on tape or cd with a copy of the lyrics (don,t open the leter once you get it back) This is called a poor mans copyrite). I like creative commons, this is new and it serves as a free legal copyright you can check it out at there web site-- http://www.creativecommons.org There is other information on this site about this subject, and others here that know more than I do about this :D so look around a bit. hope this helps --the dog

BTW if Eric Clapton asks to do one of your songs, you need to get a copyright   and a lawyer

As I've posted elsewhere, poorman's doesn't hold water in the US. Elsewhere in the world it does, but check your local statutes.

You can copyright a collection of songs for $35 in the US.

If you are looking at an interim measure, try getting a lyric sheet notarized and dated. That will be about $2.

Thanks dog for the info. I was trying to sift through all the posts. You made it quite clear. I'll let you know how the Eric Clapton thing works out!

Nick, I was reading your post elsewhere and was worried about posting a song on here that isn't protected somehow. So, from what I understand, I should notarize before posting? Sorry, takes me awhile!
