I do like his songs as well, but my favorites go back even further.
I like all the Hanks - Hank Williams Sr, Hank Snow, Hank Locklin, Hank Thompson, and there's another Hank who escapes my mind right now.
I also like many of the lesser know singers, Carl Smith, Johnny Bond, Jimmy Wakely, Elton Britt, all fabulous country singers.
