I hope this is the right spot for this question, although if not I'm sure it will wind up there. Anyway, I'm looking for a template of a TAB page that can be opened in Word and would (hopefully) save time from doing it manually. I tried to make one today, but...well, let's make a long story short...it didn't work. I'm not very versatile with these machines, and I don't have hours of time to fiddle with something. So any tips, ideas or links woulod be most appreciated!

Set your font to monospace/courier, hold down the '-' key until it gets to the
end, hit enter and repeat for another 5 lines. Viola!
(I'm only half-kidding though, what else is it you need?)
Use the insert key to toggle insert/overwrite mode so that when you type a number it overwrites the '-', instead of making the line longer and messing up the layout.
I just use notepad, I have a text file on my desktop that has a blank line and a copy/paste to my hearts delight.

Misanthrope,
I like that insert/overwrite idea. I'm hoping I can find a way to save a whole page of TAB notaton, lines only, so that I can re-open and re-use it for different songs. I think I have an idea-something I used when I was learning AutoCAD-I'll have to try it. I'll report back.

Word or equivalent, even notepad, will do you just fine in that case.
Make a whole page of lines in groups of 6 with dashes and save it as template.doc (or template.txt for notepad). Everytime you do a new song, open it up, save it as songname.doc and away you go. Because you've done save as instead of save and given it a different name, your template is left as it was ready for the next use. You can print it out to, for blanks you can physically write on when you're not near the comp (although I'd change the text colour to a mid/light grey when you do that - makes it easier to read the numbers )
Is there a specific reason it needs to be in Word?
Just wondering if you are aware of the Power Tabs program? Makes putting TAB on paper tidy and easy.
We can post more details if you're interested.

Misanthrope-you and I were on exactly the same "page"-that's just what I was thinking, and it worked. I used Wordpad for a nice, light text file.
Margaret-I'm off to Google Power Tabs.
Thanks!

Is this it?

Looks good, costs nada-that's for me. Looks like more than I need right now, but potentially very useful.
