Well, I couldn't find the "Show Your Gear" at this time of morning, or any other appropriate spot - but I see that we put our guitars here sometimes. This is one of my old faves, because it is now 20 years old, has been played to the point where the fretboard shows it (only needs a cleaning and fresh oil), and the logo on the middle pickup where I strum or pick is worn off, while it runs with recent topics such as "save your tags" and the bags of case candy; also on shielding or anti-60 cycle hum. There is none?

It's a 1989 Fender MIA Strat Plus, from the the first run with the omigosh-what-is-that-huge metal-thing Wilkinson double axle nut, before the LSR roller which was brought in from hired EMG guru Rob Turner, and BTW, this is the one I like in all respects. 8) They also came with factory installed locking Schaller tuners.

Overall the tone is clear and sweet, punchy and spanky, w/screaming sustain while it has the refinements of a crystal clearness, and covers just about everything from Buddy Holly to Jeff Beck. Also, those green blues or SRV, and 1969 too. I don't hesitate to use it with an Acoustic Simulator, and go 'electric' to places without an Acoustic?

hey bluejay. we have the same guitar!
I have a late 80's strat plus with gold lace.
I love this guitar. it is excellent for me, as it HAS those tones I look for and you mention.
I have played this for over 16 years and I am finally wearing through the finish...right there above the fret board; upper bout like yours.
three tone sunburst.
I am crazy about my strat plus w/ gold lace. :D

Ok, so you guys with the Lace Sensor pickups - how do you like them? The big complaint that I hear on a number of boards is that people claim they are "lifeless" or "sterile". I sometimes wonder if they are just not used to a quiet single coil pickup. What do you think?

dogbite, ever kewl, glad you like your Strat Plus too.

Hyperborea, good question, but I never heard that complaint or observation in these parts?

Hmm, I find the pickups to be so lively and true, especially sensive to immediate attack, so clear and pure.

So, it's like they hit faster, sound better and balanced all the way through a note, then sustain that sucker, till you quit.

I've had some second thoughts, third and fourth too.

I gave away my set of Silver Lace because I did not like the midrange emphasis as advertised here.

It was there allright, bright and loud, killing the basses and especially the trebles, which I love about the Golds.

I put Blue and Red into this 1979 - 81 USA Bullet, seen before, but now it sounds too loud and steroidal, for a tiny guitar. I guess it is all volume, and no character now, or maybe it just doesn't sound like a Fender; we got Ibanez, or Jackson character - doesn't go with the innocent or simple, just-so-plain or basic/beginner looks.

I was going to ask about the nut. Another beautiful guitar for sure, and if I may comment you do a fine job of photographing them. I like the way you added the pedals for color and the amp is a nice touch. You must have a wonderful collection. Oh, by the way .... this thread is fine but if you want the other one ......

Thanks for the link, and comments TR.

Yeah, about the nut, I like the Wilkinson just fine. It shows more clearly here in this guy's site, where he specializes in 'unique' guitars. He goes on further to say that the LSR Roller nut (Linear String Research = EMG = Rob Turner) is better, but that is only for string changes. And how hard is changing strings? :?

So anyhow, the Wilkinson, which is bulky, and I guess it adds sustain or mass to the headstock, has 2 axles which please me. You put the string over the first axle to roll it, and under the second axle to hold it down, on the locking tuner side.

So, here's that new site and I'll try to steal a pic to copy as well. :D

the nut on my start plus looks like your in the last picture. no problems with it at all.
the bridge I understand is a Floyd Rose. nut I don't have any issues like the more modern FR bridges.
I find Gold Lace pickups to have all the guts and balls I want in vintage sounding pups.
the neck pup has beautiful bell like tones. the bridge pup is full of surf treble and bright power.
my strat easily overdrives small amps.

here is a pic of my favorite guitar ever. it's change strings day so I took a photo.
I am noticing the neck yellowing nicely. the body tone seems deeper too.
I think the three tone sunburst looks great.

here is the headstock with the roller nut. I really like the locking tuners.

Ooh wee! Great pics, wonderful guitar! I'm glad and very interested or fascinated that it is your favorite. :D

They are so nice, sure do seem identical but yours is earlier, and a JOY to have. So, rock on. 8)

And man, these 25th year Anniversary gold Pickups are rather... interesting, tempting.

And the website or link for that limited set is http://www.lacemusic.com/electric_pickups/lace_sensor/anniversary_specs.php

I had two of these Strat Plus' at one time, but let the other one go, still new. It doesn't really matter in reality, but looking at all those Plus' on those websites that I posted earlier, now considered as rare delicacies, makes me think just a little sadly. It would have appreciated considerably, but no worries, it was long ago.

There's no reason why one isn't enough, and I still have the NOS Clapton Blackie to play at will, or sell.
