Just have to share with you:

I was out today with the other guitar player in the band to look for a guitar. We thought maybe we were looking for a Strat, maybe even a MIM to keep costs down a bit (although money is not *really* an issue).

There is a guitarshop in Oslo I like so we went there and played around for a while. The MIM was rapidly put away for a highway1, but the finish looked kinda cheap, so we found a Std. issue - great guitar, terrific tone!

He wasn't really happy tho' so we started with Gibsons. First a studio LP, then a SG faded and a SG.

As one of the guys running the shop, saw how the prices were going up he went to get what he claimed to be maybe the best one he had in the shop. It turned out to be a ... Duesenberg.

This one - expecpt ours was white with golden pickguard

OMG - what a guitar. German made. Semi hollowbody with bigsby. One humbucker and a single coil. THat guitar could play absolutely everything! Great tone, fantastic attack. We played through a Peavy tube amp - and it sounded just awesome!!!

A bit pricy - here in Norway it cost just about the same as a MIM strat ... +a Std edition Strat (between $2500-3000)...
He will think for a while - it is still much cheaper hobby than a sailboat :-)

Oh yeah Baby... I love the Duesenbergs. I'm gassing so bad for one, even more than a '59 Les Paul.

I love the Outlaw with the 'gator' skin top on it.

I have heard they are sweet tone machines and have checked into them. Alas, they are out of my price range currently. I am pushing for a promotion at work, may not happen for another year or two, but at that time, I will look seriously at one of these.

It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!

That is really nice looking. Is that a humbucker in the bridge and a P90 in the neck?

Also, just wondering if you (or he) compared it to any of the Gretsch models?

It is indeed a P90 and a humbucker

We didn't really compare it to any Gretsch - they had a few but the cheapest one was approx double the price of this one :-o - and as I said - when we walked in together a few days ago - we thought we were looking for a MIM strat

What a cool guitar, lars. Congrats to your friend.
And hey, you got to go along for the ride without doing any damage to your wallet!
