Hi all,

I've come to realise that I seem to enjoy playing "Hot Air Guitar" almost as much as real guitar. This is a worry. :?

What I call "Hot Air Guitar" is a sort of version of Air Guitar, but instead of standing there flailing away at thin air, you simply talk about guitar. You have this irresistible urge to come to music forums and waffle away about anything even slightly guitar related. You slink into music shops and natter away until the sales people's eye's glaze over. At least they would if it wasn't for the fact that they usually have an even worse case than you have, and will hardly give you enough conversational room to allow you to explain to them exactly how you would go about re-adjusting the action on that demo model....

You develop a tendency to check out people's left hands for calluses when you're standing in queues, just in case you can find a fresh victim for your latest theory on scale tones. You build up a repertoire of guitar related metaphors that you can work into any conversation - "Yes, I understand what you mean about the responsiveness of your Porsche under acceleration Roger - my Strat has much the same characteristics when I feel like really putting the hammer down, and ..... blah, blah, blah..."

If I'd spent all that time practising instead of typing and talking I'd be pretty darned good by now, instead of just moderately mediocre. I've tried banning myself from forums (I've succeeded with other forums for Gardening, Games, Cars, and 2 other music forums, but I just can't seem to kick the Guitarnoise habit  )

And is this really a Guitar Players Discussion or an Opinion and Polls topic? And what did you think about the Tone of it? Should I have given it more 'bite' or 'crunch'? 8)

Are you infected too? Is there a cure?

Cheers,

Chris
