there's so many things one do not know... Fortunately, most of them it is possible to live happily without knowing, but sometimes I start wondering:
What about these different shapes of (acoustic) guitars - dreadnaught(?), jumbo, concert... ?
A good overview anywhere?

Largest ito smallest
Jumbo, with rounded bouts
Dreadnaught body - the 'standard' size and shape
000, Orchestra, or Folk - I think concert fits in here as well (I've ony seen classicals refered to as Concert sized)
Parlour, 00 or even 0 sizes, basically Travel guitars -

quick response - thanks Primeta! So nothing more enigmatic than that.

(I looked up dreadnought: "A battleship armed with six or more guns having calibers of 12 inches or more." LOL)

It was a nice marketing ploy when they appeared...

So it is originally a Martin thing - interesting. Occationally I feel a slight Martin GAS - have never played a guitar more expensive than $500 - Good not to know what I'm missing. Tempted to "pull into Nazareth" when I win in the lottery though ;)

Actually HD-28 is discounted in a Norwegian netshop these days almost 20% off - still approx... $3500 though...

Here's a link that will give you the general dimensions of all the body styles.

I have had the possibilty to play on a friends Martin D28 and make a direct comparison with my own D28 clone from Tanglewood.
I can´t say that I found the Martin D28 having a much better sound quality.
And definitly not > 10 times better as the price difference shows.
