I Have a fender squier strat and dont like the sound of the higher notes. The music i play is generally classic rock and now playing around with i guess its consider metal which i shred the guitar. I would like to invest in better pickups. I dont know what type to choose from for the type of music i play. Thanks to anyone whom care to help.!!

Maybe check out Dimarzio's site, they have sample clips of their pickups and a pickup chooser where you input information and it tells you what type of pickups would be good for your playing style.

Although, the price of the pickups may not justify putting them in your Squier strat .. for cheaper options, try guitarfetish.

Oh sorry, i didn't even look at what type of guitar it was. You may not want to spend as much money on pickups as you did on the guitar. Definetly check out guitarfetish.com. I think you should find out if you want a higher output pickup or a lower output pickup, then go from there.

I also recommend Guitarfetish. I got the really hot Texas ones in my MIM Strat and it sounds wicked.

Have you tried a EQ pedal  You can get a Danelectro EQ for about $30

I...dont like the sound of the higher notes.

What don't you like about the sound? Too trebly? Notes die off too soon--no sustain? What are you describing?

Couldn't find that section. If you could link to it, that'd be great.

If you go to the main page and look in the bottom right hand corner it will say Pickup Picker.

If the high notes are buzzing, you may need to have the action set a little higher.

I'll second the EQ suggestion. Those things can do wonders to shape your sound.

Our songs also have the standard pop format: Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, bad solo. All in all, I think we sound like The Knack and the Bay City Rollers being molested by Black Flag and Black Sabbath.

I'm also going to recommend raising the action too. As well as an eq pedal.

Try a post in the effects forum about eq pedals and hopefully Joe or Wes will respond, they suggest them fairly often and now what to look for.

You could also adjust pickup height. It may be off, that happens a fair bit with Squier Strats. I adjusted my friend's brother's squier strats pickups, and it made the sound a whole lot better. Just better nicer sound overall.
