Just got my recent issue of Guitar Player and they had an interesting article on "Guitar Fight" between the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus ($499 street) and the Gibson Historic Les Paul '59 re-issue ($5100 street). The issue is the February 2007 issue. Pretty interesting... I tried to find on the web but no luck.
The gist of the article was that the "Gibson was amazing" for the price, and if you can afford it you should buy it. It actually did NOT point out that much as for differences between the two guitars, aside from some tone differences - which they attributed mainly to the Gibson burstbucker pickups.
Man, for the $4500 difference, I could buy two PRS guitars and a Fender twin. Then I'd have 3 guitars and something to play them through.
