This is the kind of music I write, but a lot of the time it is hard for me to work out the melody I hear in my head. So any direction you can give me that will help me work out what I hear in my head; be it scales, chords, modes, whatever would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't have time to listen to those songs (or don't want to) I am looking for stuff that is serene.....yet powerful. Good examples of this sound are ISIS, Red Sparowes, Pelican, Cult of Luna, Explosions in the Sky.
