I'm in my first year of teaching myself guitar from books, and I've run up against something the books don't cover.

Here's the sheet music in question;

My question is, how am I supposed to stop the open strings from ringing on beyond their stated duration?

Hiya,

I've just had a quick look and a play, and the simple answer is that you should let the open strings ring.

The piece is more an exercise in correct fingering and expression, rather than absolute note values.
