Wes is right. A drummer who can only bang hard all the time isn't much of a drummer.

He can probably play softly, but refuses to do so. This person will be nothing but problems.
I can understand a drummer wanting to play hard, I always wanted to be a drummer, I especially loved guys who really pounded the drums like John Bonham and Keith Moon.
But if you listen to LZ and Who albums, at times both played with real finesse and dynamics. They played the appropriate drums for the song.
When this drummer gets older and more experienced he will probably realize this. But for now he is just going to pound away.
So find a more mature drummer.
