My son bought a bass a couple years ago, and he's fiddled around with it some, but all I'd ever heard him do are punk/rock tunes on it. He's also a drummer (an excellent one), and plays a bit of guitar...
So I get done teaching tonight and he says "Dad, can I show you something?" Sure. He brings his bass out of his room and rips through Jaco Pastorius' "Portrait of Tracy". Figured out how to do all the artificial harmonics by ear.
I think he's gonna go places :)

It's 10 o'clock, do you know where your child is?
Yeah, in his room practicing the bass obviously. :D
If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis
Congrats for you and your son! Having a musical family is 8)
Do you guys ever record together?
Have a good one.
Mike
We haven't recorded together yet. We've gigged together twice - I sat in with his punk band once, and he sat in on drums on a jazz date I did.
We'll do some recording this summer, though. He wants to be a recording engineer.

I am teachingmy best friends son to drive; she is too afraid.
first thing this kid did behind the wheel was drive us to a guitar stoire ; he wanted to look at basses.
awesome.
Excellent NoteBoat!
Maybe something's rubbed off from ol' Dad, huh?
Drummer and bassplayer, huh? Awesome combo - that would be one TIGHT rhythm section.
Plus, neither drummer nor bassist will ever show up at different times for rehearsal ;)

That's great, do the kids mother play to? If she does then maybe him taking her to the store can make her more comfortable.

That is so cool, Noteboat. I've jammed with my daughter before and it's a great feeling.
Dogbite, that kid is going places. That's too funny.
