I can't say I've ever heard a musician say he only plays lead guitar. In order to be a mature musician, you really need to understand both, and be able to play both.
Yeah, it worked for BB (I guess, I don't enjoy his music that much, but he has been succesful) however that doesn't mean it will work for you. I remember in one of my first days here at guitarnoise, I mentioned how my hero Eric Clapton only uses his first 3 fingers when playing solos, and therefore I didn't need to use my pinky either. And some genius said, "you're not Eric Clapton"...Needless to say, I use my pinky quite frequently now.
The Who isn't a power trio, see my Townshend thread ! lol :lol: If they were, I wouldn't have that problem.
