Hey, you may remember me (probably not) but i am the one who is quite inept at finding the right settings for amp's etc and i was basically wondering how i could get my guitar to have that rocky yet clear sound as he does. The best i can come up with is a humming kind of distortion sound when i have overdrive on.

If I remember correctly he's using some kind of effect for the rythm guitar sound on that song. I'm pretty sure it's some kind of chorus effect. You can pick these effects pedals up for about 60 bucks, or you can fork out some extra money and get a multi effects pedal that does a bunch of effects. Either way you'll still have to use your ears to get the exact sound.
