Hello everyone. Newbie to these forums, hope I'm posting in the right place!

I am a born again beginner, had some lessons 20 years ago and then got married. Picking the axe up again thanks to the wonders of amplitube and headphones! Stops the wife whinging about the racket :)

I'm playing an Aria Pro Ii magma, through amplitube or ampkit on an iPad. I have songsterr+ and tab toolkit, and I wonder how anyone learned to play before the Internet! I spent a fair few quid on tab books I remember.

I'll happily try and play anything, blues reggae, punk or classical. I'm currently drilling mysel on a few standard riffs : enter sandman, one vision, sweet child of mine

I'd quite like to learn the main riff from Life is a Lemon, off Jim Steinman's bat out of hell 2.
I grabbed the tab off songsterr but I really doesn't sound right to me, it's weak and tinny, as if it's in the wrong key or something.

The tab has I played on the top 3 strings at the 5th position, but I'm certain it should be played on the bass strings in 2nd position. I had a look at some videos of the band and they seem to be playing it down there.

It's possible the song only woks with a full ensemble, but does anyone on the forums have thi riff in their repertoire and can give some advice on it?

Thanks, and Hello once again :)

The riff they tabbed on Songsterr is all the right notes..... but an Octave too high so if you learn it and then move it an octave lower.. it should be fine.

So the first note (what I say is the first note of the riff :P) is an A so if you play it somewhere else and work the riff out. Say if you do the A on the 7th fret of the D string and try the riff from there. Hope that's a bit of help you are right though they transcribed it higher than it is.

Of course another place is can go is the A on the G string.

P.s.......... it is simpler than the songsterr version on the record too.

E---------------------------------------------------------|--------------------|
B---------------------------------------------------------|--------------------|
G-2------------------------------2-----------------------|--7-6-4------------|
D-----4---2------2--4----2----------4---2---------------|-----------7-6-4---|
A-------------4---------------4---------------4------------|--------------------|
E-----------------------------------------------------------|--------------------|

Thats how Id play it! Doing the main riff a few times 3 - then that minor run after (4th time)

together we stand, divided we fall..........

Yes, that's it, but with a double stop vibrato on the F#, I think:

E---------------------------------------------------------------|
B---------------------------------------------------------------|
G-2-----------------------------------------2------------------|
D-----4---2--------4----4-----2------------------4----2------|
A-------------4-----4---4-----------4------------------------4|
E---------------------------------------------------------------|

and then the fourth bar minor run,
they play as a bass run on the live version:

E-------------------------------------------------------------------|
B-------------------------------------------------------------------|
G-2----------------------------------------------------------------|
D-----4---2--------4----4---------0------------------------------|
A-------------4-----4---4-------------4----2----0----------------|
E------------------------------------------------------4------2----|

The single version - I'm considering playing it in position:

E----------------------------|
B---3--2--------------------|
G----------4---2---1-------|
D-----------------------4---|
A----------------------------|
E----------------------------|

but I'm not sure about that position switch to play the Ab at the first fret of the G string

Technique might need some work, I can play it half speed, but picking each note makes for epic fail.
I'm trying to get the pull offs drilled in before I go to 2/3 speed.

But I couldn't play it at any speed yesterday so thanks so much!
