I was thinking of building a mini home studio as i need to record stuff. What kind of harware would i need to get for the computer? Will i need an audio interface? Please help me as i dont know much bout these things.
Cheers,

Hiya,

You'll need a mic, and I run mine through a Tascam 414MKII 4-track into the PC through a bog-standard sound card. My PC then runs out through a small hi-fi (well, the cd player bit's kaput so I feed the PC in through the AUX input) so that I can get some decent volume when I want the neighbours to listen, sorry - I meant when I want to play it back.

Software is obviously the imprtant bit - I use Audacity, which is simple enough to do most things, and I also have MAGIX, which is a little more quirky.

Grab hold of a few cd's full of samples in WAV form - decent drum loops are the hardest thing to get hold of, but E-jay do a shipload in various styles at reasonable prices

Don't forget to shut down any other software whilst you're recording - you don't want that little bing-bong that says you have new e-mail sitting there loud and proud in that quiet bit of your best ever solo.

Best,

A :-)
