OK, this is a little lengthy so feel free to stop reading now if you like.
My wife was looking a ring that she really wanted. Now she never spends any money on herself and it wasn't that long ago I got my Taylor so i was like "get the ring, you deserve it". She felt guilty it was so expensive, so we proceeded to make return trips to the jewlery store every couple of days so she could gaze at it.
We were discussing the ring and decided that if we were going to buy it, it would be an X-mas gift. Finally we were on one of our regular "gazing trips" and i said to the sales-lady "We'll take it". We left the store, the ring stayed behind to get sized, and my wife was like, "let's go to Guitar Center."
She knew I had been eye-ing a Gibson SG Faded. We got there and I asked the guy to get me a cherry one to try out. While I was futzing around with it, I didn't realize the Missus was dickering with the salesguy. I was struggling to get through "When I Come Around" when my wife walked up behind me and told me she got the guy down to $529!
I got him to throw in a free strap and took it home right then and there. Unfortunately, when we got home, she made me stand outside while she hid the guitar...AND I DON'T GET IT UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!!!!
Oh well, better later than never. Expect a post on 12/26 with pics and maybe some sound clips.

That story brought a little tear to my eye. Congrats on the new guitar and the great wife.
You sound like a lucky man. Also, think how good Christmas morning is going to feel now, it'll be like you're six years old again.
.AND I DON'T GET IT UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!!!!

My wife won't let me or the kids buy anything new starting in August. If we want something, it gets wrapped and we have to wait till Christmas.
My son loves his faded SG. It's a nice axe! Have fun with it!
Wow!
I'm both very happy for you and slightly envious of your type of give-and-take marriage!!! Mine is give/take, also. It's just that my hubby never wants anything, so this sorta trade-off stuff doesn't happen with us. Now I maybe understand why his being so satisfied with what, to me, are the bare essentials bothers me sometimes.
Anyway, enjoy your forthcoming guitar! I also have a faded SG and I love it! Didja get the cherry or brown??? Either way, congrats, thanks for the great story, and I hope Christmas is here before ya blink an eye! :D

Congrats! :D

I have never understood why people pay a lot of money for jewelry. Can anything be more useless?
Guitars on the other hand... now that's worth paying the big bucks for!
Enjoy your new guitar!!

I'd rather he buy me a guitar
For me, I'd need to consider many factors before making such a decision...
Jewelry (Diamond ring):
1) How many carats???
2) What quality???
4) Platinum???
4) Blue diamond??? (Yes, this is asking A LOT, but it could seal the deal... )
3) Shape??? (If the weight and quality are HIGH, then this is likely irrelevant.)
Guitar (Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Rickenbacker...something nice):
1) Vintage???
2) How does the neck feel???
3) Is it cute/pretty/cool???
4) How does it sound???
5) What color (least important, but a factor nonetheless)???
Life just isn't that simple for me, I guess.
:D :D :D

... Didja get the cherry or brown???
I decided on the Cherry. I just thought the walnut was a little drab

4) Blue diamond??? (Yes, this is asking A LOT, but it could seal the deal...
Yeah, that is asking a lot :) .
