I'm looking to get a new amp (Carvin SX200c, if you're interested) and on some reviews, people said that there was a little hiss from the amp. They said that the best way to control it is with a noisegate. After a bit of googling, I have confused myself a bit more.
At music websites, they are selling noisegates such as the Boss NS-2. It is categorized under noise gates, but doesnt the NS-2 just reduce all the pre-amp buzz, from other pedals. How does that affect the hiss from the amp, if it is a pre-amp stomp box? Or do I have it all wrong?
Also, I would like some examples of a "real" noisegate, if I've got the whole idea of it wrong.
