Regarding the symbols for upstrokes and downstrokes. Obvioulsy one of them is a downstroke. But is the other one an upstroke. This might be rediculously obvious but why isn't just the opposite of the downsroke.
I just had to make sure.

The 'V' is an upstroke, and the one that looks like an upside down 'U' is a downstroke.
The symbols come from violin music - they're the same symbols used for up-bow and down-bow (ever noticed how all the violinists are moving their arms the same way at the same time?)
