maybe....they are hoping that all the little dodgey companies that copy the design of all of there guitars will copy this one, fail miserably cause everyone hates it, and collapse into financial obscurity...maybe...
I don't have anything against that guitar, since Gibson just mailed me that they are sending an 'evaluation copy' for testing to me.
I think we are being way to consrvative here... I'm sure the Flying V and the Explorer looked totally stupid to those people in the late 50's and early 60's.
It is definitely a different looking guitar, but I don't hate the look. Although, it does give me the vague impression of the male and female gender symbols - is that just me?
At least Gibson is trying new things... I mean, what's Fender done recently? Oh yeah, they came out with a stratocaster that didn't have a pickguard. Bold move.

"If the moon were made of ribs, would you eat it?"
it needs an "I'm with stupid' sticker.
it needs an "I'm with stupid' sticker.
Or at least a warning label :P
Let's just hope Ted Nugent doesn't get ahold of that thing.
It would come in handy when introducing the band, you could hold it up so people in the back could see who was being introduced.
haha
you could use it as a hook to pull bad muso's off the stage?
I'm no judge of Guitar inovation or beauty , but i know what i like. and i've always thought flying Vs looked ugly, never cared for Explorers either come to think of it.
But i will take one of those Fenders with no pickguard :P :P :P
#4491....
Does anyone remember when the bass player from Nirvana threw his bass about 20 feet up in the air and missed it when it came down? (I think it was at the MTV Awards) Knocked him out cold. Seems to me, it would have been much better if he had this body. THAT woulda been cool to see.

You mean Krist Novoselic ?
Strange to be alive even after getting knocked down by a heavy bass. Just goes to show how tough bass players are.
Coming to the topic. I just played my 'evaluation copy' and I am happy to note that this Gibson is a path breaking guitar. You don't even have to play it to get a sound. It simply plays by itself.
Can't say I'd spend money on one.
I'm sure someone goofed somewhere along the line. Insted of throwing them out, they got some marketing intern and said "If you can sell this, you're hired full time."

It may be a collectors Item in 20 years. I can't see them selling a lot of those things.
