ok. now i'm getting a violin...or maybe a viola. (that would be closer to the range of a guitar, right?) there's another amazing violin shredder...she's a nutcase, can't remember her name.

I see....

One of the benefits of getting old is you remember stuff that happened a while ago. The first time I heard a guitarist described as a 'shredder' was around 1982 or so.

The guitarist was Eddie van Halen.

Like many 'my guitar god is better than your guitar god' terms, it's now come to symbolize the playing style of folks like Yngwie and Vai.... neither of whom had released their first album when Eddie was being called a shredder.

So I used the term in the original context of the word - Eddie was a shredder because he shedded... he tore up the instrument.

Wow, that was cool. I love the violin, such a great sound. Definately not a lot of room for error, which makes it all the more impressive... :shock:
