Do any of you guys know what kind of strings Waylon Jennings used?
guage and brand?
Thanks a load guys
interesting. you should try a country forum. bet they know.
I giggged with a guy that was older country. obvious Waylon fan. his rig was a tele with a big pedal board.
that had an overdrive, a phaser, and chorus. I can hear that in Waylons music. type of string and gauge never crossed my mind when we were discussing guitars and rigs.

Assuming that you are asking this question to be able to play like Waylon (tonewise etc), I shall offer you some sane advice.
Knowing which brand of strings, their gauge and chemical composition won't help you. But what can help you is understanding his technique in his songs. How he gets his signature tone is from his hands and with some effects (maybe).
He plays pretty clean (on the telecaster), so it is pure 'playing' coming out without any sort of adulteration.
Good Luck.
thanks guy but Rahul but I do know he did use a phase shifter I do know that he played by the bridge.
Also do you guys know what kind of amp he used?
Questions about famous musicians are hard to answer in general, as most players change things up at various points in their careers.
And, even if you use the same gear as *insert_famous_player_here* you're only ~20% of the way to getting their tone.
Waylon could sound like himself thru pretty much any amp/guitar combination. Same with anyone you care to name.
It's been said many times, "tone is in your fingers".
Here's a capture of Waylon on Johnny Cash's TV show back in the late 60s
The whole vid is here
It looks like it might be a bass amp, due to the one huge speaker, but I'm not an amp archaeologist.
Also, note he's not using any effects (except whatever is built into the amp) in this clip.
The piece of equipment I'm most intrigued by in that video, though, is the 6/12 doubleneck. Danelectro?
*edit*
I found another video clip of Waylon from the mid 80's (duet with Neil Young!) and he's playing his Telecaster thru a Peavey amp of some sort, again it looks like he's going straight into the amp.
