I've seen this term thrown around alot, but never really explained. Could someone please tell me what a "click track" is?

Think of it as a metronome track in a piece of multi-track music - it keeps the musicians in time. When the piece is mixed down to a single stereo track, the click track is left off.
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Around here it is often used in studio's when you record each track seperately. First tempo is decided upon, then the drummers drums his part, while being guided by a click-track. After that the other musicians can either follow the drums or click-track, whatever they prefer.
Okay. Thanks!

it typically creates a rhythmically tighter song. I personally dont like them. They can be useful though.

The type of studio requirements will differ depending on what you are recording, sometimes a click track will be recorded with the drums and sometimes not, there are drummers who would rather do their own timing. I use them about 50% of the time.
